Types of APD Therapies
Due to the different types of auditory processing deficits and every child being individually unique, APD may manifest itself in a variety of different ways. By finding the deficit specific diagnosis, the nature of the disorder can be determined and a unique, individual treatment plan can be designed.
The goal of our comprehensive APD Testing & Treatment Program is to provide parents with the information, tools, and support they need so that together, we can help your child achieve their maximum potential!
There are a variety of different APD therapies that target the different types of APD deficits. Dependent on your child’s diagnoses, they may fit the recommendation for more than one auditory therapy.
ARIA or Auditory Rehabilitation for Interaural Asymmetry
An Integration Deficit with Amblyaudia indicates the presence of an abnormal right ear dominance aka left ear weakness (Amblyaudia). This mismatch between ears, or asymmetrical auditory processing skills, causes significant difficulty hearing in noise and poor short-term memory for auditory information.
Dichotic Interaural Intensity Differences training (DIID) is a research-based training regimen designed to specifically rehabilitate the deficit behind integration deficits with amblyaudia and can be provided under the supervision of a licensed and certified audiologist. This individualized and adaptive approach allows the clinician to structure the training regimen to the specific performance characteristics of each participant in order to maximize gains across tasks with dichotic digits and words.
CAPDOTS
Dichotic listening training has been shown to be effective in improving binaural integration and/or binaural separation skills with improvements also seen in academics, listening, conversational skills, and integration of information. Both in-clinic and/or online remote training programs can be provided under the supervision of a licensed and DIID certified audiologist. Dichotic Interaural Intensity Discrimination is a research based online computerized dichotic listening training program that can be provided under the supervision of a licensed and certified audiologist or speech pathologist.
Dichotic Listening Training Program
Zoo Caper Skyscraper is a game designed to incrementally improve dichotic listening skills. It
introduces dichotic concepts slowly and allows the player to improve as they play through the game. It uses animal sounds or speech sounds in each ear requiring the listener to correctly identify which animal is making a sound.
Auditory Memory Training Program:
EMT is a game designed to incrementally improve working memory skills using both auditory and visual input. It introduces working memory concepts slowly and allows the player to improve as they play through the game.
Temporal Prosody Training Program:
Insane Earplane is an easy to learn flying game designed to improve a variety of tonal listening and processing skills. It introduces different tonal activities, such as lateralization, memory, pitched tones and frequency sweeps, and allows the player to improve these skills.
